First responders had to remove a Tesla Cybertruck from Grapevine Lake in Texas late Monday evening, after the Grapevine Police Department said the driver intentionally drove it into the water.

      I saw a comment somewhere about how it’s “ACAB” up until something like this happens and I was like "can you explain to me the process by which you think this person will be held accountable for the damage they have caused and the efforts that will have to be made to retrieve their personal property? Because that cost is going to be born by the tax payers and will have environmental implications.

      They should have charged him for endangerment to his passengers too.

    It isn’t unusual for small trucks to float. That was one of the advantages of the small S10 sized 2wd with a 4 cyl. Light enough that it floated if you fell through the ice, thus giving you a chance to get to safety. When driving on 2-3 inches of ice this was important. (I personally refuse to walk on less than 4 inches of ice, and need 12 to drive on)

    People who intentionally choose drive their vehicles in water make me laugh.

    There are many required reasons to drive a vehicle into a body of water, and you only do it when it is required.

        Yes, you are looking at a social media post of the CEO of Tesla promoting the Cybertruck as being waterproof and being able to serve briefly as a boat, so that it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy. So it’s not too stupid for someone to believe that the “wade mode” in his Cybertruck is allowing him to cross a lake

          The Amphicar was manufactured in West Germany and first made an appearance in America at the 1961 New York Auto Show.

          Originally designed by Hanns Trippel, these amphibious cars hit the US market from 1961 to 1967. Most notable for their ability to cruise on land and operate in the water, these cars were a fun new invention in the car world for that time.

          One of the most famous owners of the Amphicar was President Lyndon Johnson. Those leisurely rides created the opportunity for a clever prank that Johnson enjoyed playing on his passengers.

          It involved barrelling the vehicle down a hill into a lake and exclaiming to his passengers that the brakes had malfunctioned, while they had no idea the car was designed to float in water.
